Mental Health First Aid Basic Training is an evidence-based program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada. This course aims to improve mental health literacy and teaches participants how to recognize early warning signs that a friend, family member or colleague may be struggling with a mental health issue, as well as intervention strategies for mental health crisis situations. Practical skills are taught in a supportive group learning environment using a model that is easy to remember and apply in real-life settings.


Topics include the four most common mental illnesses: substance-related, mood, anxiety and trauma-related and psychotic disorders. Participants who take this course are well prepared to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, communities and workplaces.  


This training meets best practice guidelines set forth in the CSA National Standard of Canada on Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace, teaching participants invaluable skills to address mental health confidently, sensitively and effectively in their workplaces and beyond.

As this session takes place during the winter months, we are conscious of the possibility that inclement weather may necessitate cancelling the session.  Please know that we will be keeping a close eye on the forecast in the days leading up to the session, and if the decision is made to cancel we will will notify participants by email at least 48 hours beforehand.  It is extremely rare that we cancel sessions, but if stormy weather prevents participants from being able to get to the venue safely rest assured we will be happy to waive our regular cancellation policy and either issue you a full refund or roll your registration over to another training session.  Stay safe this winter!


CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Mental Health First Aid Canada is a certification-based course. In order to acquire certification, attendees must participate in the course's activities and group discussion, must be present for the duration of the course and must complete the training in its entirely with the same group. Participants who miss more than 15 minutes of course content for any reason during the two days cannot make up missed time and will not be eligible for certification. If a participant misses more than the 15 minute limit, instructors are not able to offer at-home/make-up assignments and it is not possible to attend the missed piece(s) of the course at a later date with a different group. It is important that all participants are aware of this requirement, as no exceptions will be made. These are quality assurance measures put in place by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, who regulate the MHFA program and instructors are not at liberty to change these requirements. If a participant who is ineligible for certification due to missed time chooses to take the training in its entirety at a later time, no discount will apply to the registration fee.


TRYING TO REGISTER AT WORK?  If you're attempting to complete your registration using a device and/or network issued by your organization there may be a firewall in place preventing our payment platform from functioning properly, resulting in a "Hmm, Something Went Wrong" message.  If you run into this issue please try registering on a personal device using a personal network.  Alternatively, we can issue you an electronic invoice which can be paid directly by credit card, but please note that we are unable to reserve seats without advance payment so you will not be guaranteed a seat until the invoice is issued and paid in full.  To request an invoice, please email us at info@arpeggiohealthservices.com and let us know who to make out the invoice to, the email address where it should be sent, and the details of the session you’d like to register for including course type, dates and location as well as the number of seats you’d like to reserve.


LATE REGISTRATION: Please note that due to paperwork we are required to finalize prior to our sessions it is typically not possible to accommodate requests for registration after the set registration deadline.  If you have missed the deadline and wish to attend the course, please email us at info@arpeggiohealthservices.com to inquire as to whether we can offer you a seat.  If by chance we are able to accommodate you, an administration fee of $50.00 will apply to the registration fee and you'll be asked to submit payment by a specific date and time via an electronic invoice which can be paid directly by credit card.  As our courses frequently fill to capacity before the registration deadline we encourage you to register as early as possible.  Individuals who show up at sessions without having officially registered in advance cannot be accommodated.

    No exceptions are made to our cancellation policy for any reason.  If you opt to cancel your seat the cancellation policy will be enforced as described, and should you choose to enrol in a future training session no credit or discount will apply to the registration rate for that session.


    In the unlikely event that the minimum required number of participants is not reached, the session will be postponed.  You will be notified via email at least one week prior to the intended course start date, at which time you may choose to receive a refund or to apply the registration fee to a future course.


    By proceeding with registration, you are indicating your acknowledgement and agreement to the Cancellation Policy outlined above and understand that no exceptions to the policy will be made for any reason.
