arpeggio  [ ahr · PEJ · ee · oh ]  noun:

in music, the sounding of the notes of a chord in rapid succession instead of simultaneously.

To play or sing an arpeggio, the musician must sound each element of the chord one at a time, so every note is

heard individually.  All humans play important roles within our social circles, work communities and in society.

Each of these roles is equally valuable individually, while providing a unique contribution to the world around us.

SESSION DESCRIPTION:

Mental Health First Aid for Adults who Interact with Youth is an evidence-based program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada aiming to improve mental health literacy and to provide the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in youth ages 12 to 24. Mental health problems often first develop during adolescence or early adulthood, with half of all mental disorders beginning by age 14, and 75% beginning by age 24. This interactive course is provided in a supportive group learning environment. Practical skills are taught using a model that is easy to remember and apply in real-life settings.

The early signs and symptoms of developing mental health problems will be different from the more established clinical profiles which are reflected later in life. The social, educational and family environments in which mental disorders occur in young people are also different from those later in life. Therefore, the information in this course is designed to be sensitive to the unique aspects of mental health problems in young people. It is meant to assist education professionals, health providers, parents and other adults in the identification of mental health problems and appropriate first aid intervention strategies. Specific topics include depression, anxiety, substance related issues, eating disorders, deliberate self-injury and more.
